Rise to Power 2019-11-25

Rise to Power was a game devised mainly by Noah Dove and myself originally in (something like) 2008. As a 4X game, the player builds an empire and extracts resources from it, and funnelling money into an army to capture enemy territory in order to expand. Unlike other such games, you are playing with thousands of other people at the same time, and the game focusses on these political interactions to both assist and frustrate the player.

I think I started and stopped this project 9 total times; each time with a different set of people working on it, including a few solo attempts, along with several different technologies. I tried closure libraries, angular, node, C++, various databases; all of these worked to some degree, though my node + angular experiment made it the farthest. I eventually got multiple players working though a very basic game (including movement), but lost interest. The game has lived on various open-source repositories over its many variations; I'll see if I can spend any time to try to open-source it on github.
