Chicago Brick 2019-11-18

In 2015, a call went out at Google Chicago for some engineers willing to help set up the content for a big video wall in the lobby of the building. I enthusiastically joined a team of about 5 others. We evaluated many different options, but found them all to be somewhat dissatisfying. Instead, we chose to write our own. After a bit of work, Chicago Brick was born. It was open-sourced at Chicago Brick.

The software coordinates a bunch of instances of Chrome to act like a single display. The wall in the Google Chicago lobby has, like, 100 megapixels, and can display very high res photos. It was a ton of fun to code, and I still work on it occasionally! If working on a graphics platform sounds interesting, it's definitely a fun project to work on.
